　　所谓垂悬修饰语或悬垂修饰语(Dangling Modifiers)，就是指句首的短语与后面句子的逻辑关系混乱不清——尤其指句首短语的逻辑主语与其后句子的主语不一致。例如：

　　◆悬垂修饰：At the age of ten, my grandfather died.

　　上海AEIS考试说：句中at the age of ten 只表明在十岁的时假，但没有说明是谁十岁的时候。按一般常理业推理，这不可能是my grandfather 十岁的时候。

　　可改为：When I was ten, my grandfather died.

　　◆悬垂修饰：Looking out of the window of our hotel room, there was a wonderful range of mountains.

　　上海AEIS培训说：这句话听起来好像是那些山从窗户里往外看。

　　可改为：When we Looked out of the window of our hotel room, there was a wonderful range of mountains. 从我们旅馆的窗子向外看，看到了美丽的山峦。

　　◆悬垂修饰：Hearing a number of entertaining stories, our visit was enjoyable.

　　可改为：Hearing a number of entertaining stories, we enjoyed our visit.

　　Since we heard a number of entertaining stories, we enjoyed our visit.

　　Since we heard a number of entertaining stories, our visit was enjoyable.

　　◆悬垂修饰：To play tennis well, the racket must be held properly.

　　可改为：To play tennis well, I/you/one must hold the racket properly.

　　If you wish to play tennis well, you must hold the racket properly.

　　If you wish to play tennis well, the racket must be held properly.

　　◆悬垂修饰：Tired but happy，the bus whisked us home

　　这句话听起来好像是公共汽车 tired and happy。

　　可改为：We were tired but happy, and the bus whisked us home. 我们虽然疲乏，但很高兴，公共汽车飞快地把我们送到了家。
